What is covered in PTAP Foundation Certification

PTAP Foundations Certificate
  • Human physiology specific to metabolic testing
  • Substrate/energy systems used to create ATP
  • Testing processes (RMR and VO2max), including client preparation, modality and protocol selection, and parameter setting
  • Advanced data analysis and interpretation
  • Identification of cardiovascular, metabolic and respiratory limitations
  • Zoning options
  • How to create limitation and goal-specific exercise and nutrition programming
  • How to monetise physiological testing into your business

The program is highly applicable for those within the health, longevity and performance sectors whether working with medical, general or athletic populations. We will employ the KORR CardioCoach metabolic analyser, but rest assured the program can easily be applied to any metabolic analyser (PNOE, VO2master, Cosmed, SpiroFit etc.) In addition to the online course programming, weekly video discussion groups support the course material.

I am currently enrolled in Daniel's Physiological Testing, Analysis, and Programming Certification. So far, I have found the course to be highly informative and practical. The case examples provided are especially valuable and have greatly enhanced my learning. Although I have only attended one online video consultation, I immediately felt welcomed despite being new to the program. The session was engaging, and I appreciated the detailed notes Daniel shared afterward, which reinforced the discussion points. Overall, the content has been extremely useful for my professional development, and I would strongly recommend this certification to anyone interested. Daniel’s expertise and supportive approach make the learning experience both insightful and rewarding.

Comprising a series of meticulously crafted videos and a comprehensive examination, this program elevated budding metabolic testers to adept professionals capable of leveraging testing to pinpoint athlete limitations. This knowledge empowered them to design targeted programs for surpassing these barriers through strategic metabolic and other testing, with tangible outcomes evident in subsequent testing cycles.

The Foundations Certification has helped me learn and gain confidence in introducing these tests into our clinic and how I approach performance assessments from here on out. I came in wanting to understand RMR and VO2 max testing; I left with a framework for interpreting what those numbers mean for an athlete in front of me. The breadth of the material stood out. Training zones stopped being a formula I can apply and became something I could justify from a substrate-utilization standpoint. More importantly, I now know how to read a test and identify whether an athlete's limiter is metabolic, respiratory, or cardiovascular — and how that distinction should change their programming. As a sports physiotherapist, this has given me a real objective layer to work from rather than relying on subjective markers alone. Highly recommended for any clinician who wants to test with purpose.

Wow. What can I say. The course material has been superb, but the weekly interactive calls have taken it to a whole new level. Practical examples, thinking on your feet, reviewing tests, general discussions, all absorbing. The calls just let this all sink in at a level that’s not possible from course material alone…and we also learn from others how they do it…and the challenges they come across. The community itself that you are building is well worth the entrance fee. Well done on putting something so amazing together. Can’t wait for the advanced stuff!

I highly recommend Daniel Crumback and the Physiological Testing, Analysis and Programming (PTAP) Certification. I came into this program with more than 40 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, and PTAP has significantly expanded both my knowledge and the way I look at physiological testing. The coursework has helped me develop a much deeper understanding of cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, metabolic testing, test selection and protocols, and—most importantly—how to analyze and interpret the data rather than simply report numbers. One of the greatest benefits of PTAP is learning to look beyond VO₂ Max. I now have a much better understanding of how the cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic systems work together and how the data from a VO₂ test can help identify opportunities and potential limitations. That knowledge has given me much more confidence in evaluating tests and using the information to create more individualized training recommendations for my clients. The Thursday training sessions with Daniel have been invaluable. The coursework gives you the science and foundation, but having direct access to Daniel helps bring all of the pieces together. He has an exceptional ability to take complicated physiology and data and help you understand not only what you are seeing, but why it matters and what to do with it. I especially appreciate Daniel's willingness to answer questions, review real-world situations, challenge our thinking, and help us reason through the data. His depth of knowledge and experience are evident, but equally important is his commitment to making sure his students truly understand the material and can apply it. PTAP has made me a better coach and a much more knowledgeable physiological testing practitioner. I continue to learn every week, and I am incredibly grateful for Daniel's mentorship and for the education this program has provided. I would highly recommend PTAP to any health, fitness, or performance professional who wants to move beyond simply administering a VO₂ or metabolic test and truly understand how to test, analyze, interpret, and apply the information.
